The Neighbourhoods development team prepared an in depth Whitepaper on Social Sensemaking, setting out an ontology of social media primitives that people can use to design Neighbourhoods for themselves.

Neighbourhoods - Social Sensemaking Research Paper

Neighbourhoods is a platform for groupware (any software groups use to communicate with each other, share information, ideas, memories, and goods, and coordinate their actions) that enables communities to create and select distinctive cultural patterns. It uses P2P and Web3 software called Holochain. At the heart of each neighborhood is the Social Sensemaker, a special piece of software that implements and computes a group's particular metrics, responses to media objects, and ways of recognizing one another.

People develop more expressive symbolic language, and groups can share emphasis on what is important. This implies that groups can interact and interpret such interactions according to their own terms. A scientific research group has different expressive requirements than a meme channel, and both of these demand different things from the dating scene. Maybe your team will use a combination of these tactics to better segregate the various duties without having to use three different platforms for coordination.

The social world is the focus of social sensemaking.
Orienting oneself to people, places, scenarios, and representations is what it entails. The latter must be defined in some way in order for this orientation to take place. Making social sense is a social process in and of itself. It can be discussed among peers in a social group. Whether they are aware of it or not, people utilize their objectives, aims, and wants to interpret the social world for themselves. Social sensemaking needs to be a shared, apparent set of values, aims, and/or interests for it to be a group activity as opposed to an individual one.

Mission
In Neighbourhoods, community activators choose the collective sense-making mechanics that codify their group's norms, regulations, and culture in order to enable the growth of digital groups with distinct cultures in their communities. We consider community activators to be the group's founders and/or stewards who can gradually spread their initiative throughout the group as part of communal sense-making and, eventually, governance procedures.
